Growing Places' approach to forging a greener future - nurturing responsibility, curiosity and care.

Creating holistic and nurturing spaces with empathy and environmental care at its core.
An eco-conscious approach
At Growing Places we are committed to ongoing sustainability, guided by the belief that a healthy, thriving environment is a fundamental right for every child.
Sustainability is the practice of meeting our current needs without reducing the ability of future generations to meet theirs. It’s about living, creating, and making decisions in ways that protect the environment, support people’s wellbeing, and use resources responsibly so that social, economic, and ecological systems can thrive over the long term.
This belief shapes our responsibility to place sustainability at the heart of everything we do, setting high standards, building trust, and striving for excellence in how we care for our communities and our planet.

Growing minds, greener futures
Nature and environmental themes are thoughtfully woven throughout all areas of learning, creating a rich, interconnected experience for children. In all that we do children are encouraged to engage with the natural world, reflect on sustainability, and develop a deep sense of care for their environment.
This approach nurtures curiosity, creativity and builds trust, responsibility and a lifelong respect for the planet.
From planting seeds to bug hunting adventures, outdoor activities offer children a hands-on connection to the natural world. Whether digging in the soil, observing insects or caring for growing plants, children learn to appreciate biodiverdisty, develop patience and engage with sustainabilty in a purposfrul way.

Play, explore, discover
We use creativity as a gateway to explore important eco-topics like waste, water and biodiversity. Through storytelling, songs, dance and imaginative play, children connect with environmental themes in joyful, meaningful ways.
Our outdoor learning provision, Little Acorns, is a unique and inspiring space set within a working farm. This setting offers exceptional hands-on experience that connects children with nature. From planting and harvesting to animal care and environmental exploration, every activity is rooted in real-world engagement and sensory discovery. Providing a safe and inclusive space for children to thrive outside traditional classroom walls. Little Acorns is a living classroom where creativity, wellbeing and connection grows side by side.

Second Bloom
Second Bloom Sales at Growing Places are a vibrant celebration of sustainability and community spirit. These pop-up events offer pre-loved clothing items thoughtfully donated by our community to reduce waste and support local famillies. Every purchase helps fund community initiatives, making it a beautiful cycle of giving, growing, and blooming again.
Everyday Operations
Behind the scenes we're committed to embedding sustainability into our everyday operations. In our office we minimise single-use plastics and unnecessary printing, choosing reusable and digital alternatives wherever possible. In our rooms we prioritise sustainable hands-on creativity in our settings. Making our own playdough, using powdered paint, and incorporating natural foraged materials such as leaves and sticks. Our Discovery Den is a treasure trove of natural, recycled and repurposed materials for our children and staff to use in their learning and creative pursuits. These small but intentional choices reduce waste, minimise reliance on packaged products, and model environmental responsibility for staff and children alike.

Small changes big impact
We hope that our commitment to sustainability throughout our settings and within the local community will serve as a powerful reminder that lasting sustainability all begins with us, the individual. Positive change and long-term transformation requires a conscious move away from mindless consumption to mindful choices. Limiting waste wherever possible and enforcing the knowledge that small choices when repeated and shared can create lasting, far-reaching change.
